Casting Clinic - Instructional
Several times a year we have organized instructional clinics to improve your casting skills. This is geared for anywhere from beginners to advanced casters. The clinics are taught by FFI certified casting instructors.
Cyprus Park outing - Tampa
Located at the western end of Cyprus Street on Tampa Bay, this area provides an ideal location to wade for redfish and snook. The low tides of winter provide an expansive sand bar ideal for sight casting to the incoming fish.
Chattoouga River - South Carolina
Club members travel to Mountain Rest, SC for an annual autumn fishing trip on the wild and scenic Chatoogga River. We stay in cabins at Oconee State Park and share community meals at the end of the day. Rainbow, brown and brook trout can all be caught in the wadable river.
Frankie's Two Boys Inn - Andros
Members of the club travel to Andros Island, Bahamas for a week of bone fishing. This trip has been booking at Frankie’s Two Boys Inn.
Lake Calm - Tampa
Each June we gather for a morning fish on Lake Calm in Odessa, FL. Members bring their kayaks or canoes or team up with someone to share a watercraft and fish the crystal clear lake for bass and pan fish. Fishing from 6am to 11am and finishing with lunch.
Wade Fishing Clinics - Tampabay
Wade fishing clinics are presented usually in the fall , with on site education and instructions on how to fish the low tides, looking for tailing redfish and cruising snook. Check our newsletters for locations and details of the clinics.
Big Gun - casting competition
The Big Gun Shoot Out is an annual competitive fly casting competition and draws some of the best fly casters in Florida. The event began in 1994 and is open to men and women of all ages and casting abilities. It consists of six stations that includes distance competition, accuracy skills, and specific alternative casts. There are prizes for team and individual winners as well as a prize for the final Big Gun Shoot-Out for the best distance scored by an individual.
"Play Hooky" Suncoast Youth Center fishing
Every December the club has a morning outing to fish the wildlife hatchery now located at the Suncoast Youth Center in Apollo Beach. . A tour and brief informative lecture of the Hatchery and the Florida Aquarium Research Center starts the morning followed by fishing the ponds for snook, redfish and tarpon. We finish off the morning with lunch.
Don Coleman Outing - Ft. De Soto
Fishing outing and chili cook off! Sponsored by the Suncoast Fly Club. A gathering for fishing and good food!
